Health & Safety
We take the matter of H&S so seriously, both for our clients on their sites and in-house with our people, that we engage dedicated H&S consultants.
For us, it all begins with making sure that our people and processes are healthy and safe, and we believe that if we keep our management of HEALTH & SAFETY healthy and safe, then we can all breath easy and get on with our jobs.
So, we work collaboratively with our clients, our consultants and our people to get it right… and as we are actively proactive, we are happy and confident about making things happen… (safely).

Because we are absolutely obsessive about building to engineer’s detail, you can rest assured that every nail is there – in the right place -
And by building with our specialist and experienced construction teams you can be sure that the build is sound. Which means that we can give you the peace of mind you deserve.
Sustainability
Through design innovation and cute thinking we cut out waste, how? We design it out from the start!
As we are passionate about sourcing our materials locally, and reducing road miles wherever possible, we buy our chipboard direct from the manufacturer which is only 30 miles away from us. Not only that, but any waste timber we might have is then picked up by our chipboard manufacture to make into – guess what? More chipboard! We call that Re-recycling…
Chain of Custody
Datum manufactures timber frame buildings to our clients’ design. We purchase only PEFC and FSC materials which we use in the production of the timber frame panels and components. These are then shipped to site where contractors construct the final buildings. Other components are purchased with an FSC or PEFC claim from certified manufacturers and delivered direct to site for inclusion in the building.
The PEFC claim for the final building is calculated using the Percentage system with any FSC materials being regarded as controlled wood.
We have our own in house Chain of Custody Manager who has overall responsibility for establishing, implementing, maintaining, reviewing, all relevant policies procedures and instructions for the Company in relation to the Chain of Custody procedures.
Building Compliance
Building regulations changed in Oct 2010 and the rules have changed again, only this time they are even more onerous… Party walls are part of the action, as is thermal cold bridging and air tightness too. No one appears to know how to interpret these rules in the form of buildable, conventional timberframe.
WE DO because we have a compliance guru who works closely with the Scottish Office on Building Standards. We can offer a unique inside-out approach to build and cost efficient solutions.
